"At the end of the day," Perrette told investors, "bringing all the material together was the only option we saw to make this a sustainable business."

The combination of HBO Max and Discovery+ is intended to reduce churn by providing "something for everyone in the home," he explained.

WBD did not reveal the new brand name for the combined service, nor did executives disclose pricing for the consolidated streamer.

Initially, Warner Bros. Discovery will concentrate on the ad-supported and ad-free versions of the combined HBO Max-Discovery+,

Perrette, the company is also "exploring ways to reach clients in the free, ad-supported arena" with material that is completely distinct from what is available on premium platforms.

HBO may or may not be included in the name of the unified direct-to-consumer WBD platform; Perrette stated that the business is doing consumer research on the HBO Max moniker.

HBO, on the other hand, will remain a prominent brand: "HBO will always be the lighthouse and the ultimate brand that speaks for television quality," he added on the call.

HBO Max has "performance and customer difficulties" but offers a comprehensive collection of capabilities; Discovery+ has less features but a more strong core delivery infrastructure.

WBD intends to have 130 million global streaming customers by 2025 and to produce $1 billion in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation from its direct-to-consumer operations
